Brighton Skeptics Society (BSS) is committed to respecting and protecting your privacy.  This Policy explains the reasons why we collect information about people who visit our website and when we do it, how we use it, the times we may disclose it to others and the ways we keep it secure. Who are we?

We are the Brighton Skeptics Society, a non-profit organisation who aim to support and develop the skeptical community in and around Brighton & Hove. The society was formed in 2018 and holds regular events in Brighton.

How do we collect information from you?

We get your information from you when you sign up to our mailing list to receive updates or when you sign up for a membership with us, this can be through our website or at an event. Our host site, Square Space, also collects information from visitors to our site. Please visit their privacy policy to find out exactly how they manage their data

What type of information is collected?

The information we collect is your name and email address. The legal basis for holding this data is explicit consent from members wishing to be kept informed of our events and activities.

How is your information used?

We may use your information to:

  • Send out a monthly newsletter keeping our subscribers up to date with future events

  • Notify members and subscribers about other activities the BSS is involved in

Who has access to your information?

We will not sell, give or rent your information to third parties for marketing purposes. All personal information is securely held by our email provider and accessible only by authorized persons.

Please be assured that we will only release your information to maintain a subscription list unless consent is previously obtained or we are required to do so by law, for example by a court order for the prevention of fraud or another crime.

How you access and update information

If you no longer want to receive updates, be subscribed to our mailing list or update your information you can follow the link that is included in all our communications.

We will not contact you for marketing unless receiving prior explicit consent.

This privacy policy applies only to our website. This website contains links to other sites and we advise you read the privacy policies of other websites you visit. We are not responsible for the practices and policies of other sites, even if you access them using a link from our site.

If you linked to our site from a third party site we likewise cannot be responsible for their policies or practices and recommend reading the policy of that site.

If you are aged 16 or under then we ask you get permission from a parent/guardian before sharing personal information with us.

Policy review

We regularly review this policy, at least annually, and will contact all subscribers with any updates when the management committee brings them in to effect.
